Get Started
Request a fingerprint card from your pre-license course provider (Career Education Systems), or Kansas Pearson VUE exam center. You can also request a fingerprint card from the Kansas Real Estate Commission by emailing your name and mailing address to krec@ks.gov.
Take the fingerprint card, the Fingerprint Information sheet (found with the background waiver), and a valid photo ID to your local police department, county sheriff’s office, or the Topeka office of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to be fingerprinted. You may need to schedule an appointment and/or pay a fee for the service.
Career Education Services also conducts fingerprinting. Please call for specific dates and times.
Do not fold, staple, bend, tape, highlight, stamp, make extraneous marks, or modify the fingerprint card. Satisfactory fingerprints must be obtained using the services of an authorized entity.
Type or print all information in BLACK INK. DO NOT SIGN the fingerprint card until your signature can be witnessed by the official taking your fingerprints.
Submit the completed Background Waiver Form, Fingerprint Card, and $60, payable to KREC by credit card cashier’s check or money order, directly to the Kansas Real Estate Commission (KREC). Your fingerprints will then be submitted to the KBI and FBI to determine whether a criminal history exists in a process that takes about 10 days unless the fingerprints are rejected. You can submit your background check waiver and fingerprints before or after completing the examination.
All fingerprinting for the Missouri Real Estate Commission is done through the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s approved vendor, IDEMIA, to complete both the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the FBI background check. Register with the Missouri Automated Criminal History site at www.machs.mo.gov and provide the Missouri Real Estate Commission’s four-digit registration number, 0004.

The fee for fingerprinting is $41.75. You can pay via credit or debit card when registering or on site with a check, money order, or cash (exact change only).

You must submit your fingerprinting receipt with your application. No licenses will be issued until a satisfactory result from the background check is received.
